4

Publish with a clear URL: /thank-you or /success

2

Connect Form to Thank You Page

1

Edit your landing page

2

Select your form/button

3

In form settings, find 'After Submit' or 'Redirect URL'

4

Select or enter your thank-you page URL

5

Save and publish

3

Set Up GA4 Conversion

1

In GA4, go to Admin > Events

2

Click 'Create event'

3

Name: 'lead' or 'signup_complete'

4

Condition: page_location contains '/thank-you'

5

Save, then mark this event as a Key Event (conversion)

4

Test the Full Flow

1

Fill out your form with test data

2

Verify redirect to thank-you page

3

Check GA4 Realtime > Conversions

4

You should see your conversion event fire

Best Practices

Do

  • Always use thank-you page tracking—it's most reliable
  • Test the complete flow before launching campaigns
  • Set up GA4, ads platforms, AND native analytics
  • Use consistent conversion naming across platforms
  • Mark conversions as 'One per user' to avoid duplicates
  • Verify tracking in Realtime before spending on ads

Don't

  • Track popup thank-you messages (unreliable)
  • Forget to test before launching paid campaigns
  • Use 'Every' conversion counting for leads
  • Skip verification steps
  • Install tracking code on thank-you AND all pages (duplication)
  • Ignore discrepancies between platforms

Verification Checklist

  • Submit a test form and verify thank-you redirect
  • Check GA4 Realtime for conversion event
  • Use Google Tag Assistant extension
  • Check Facebook Events Manager for Lead event
  • Verify Google Ads conversion in campaign reports
  • Check Leadpages native analytics matches

Pro Tips

  • Set up thank-you page conversion BEFORE launching any campaigns
  • Add conversion value even for leads: $5-50 depending on lead quality
  • Create separate thank-you pages per campaign for granular tracking
  • Use UTM parameters consistently: utm_source, utm_medium, utm_campaign
  • Set up Slack/email notifications for new leads via Zapier
  • Review conversion data weekly and optimize underperforming pages

Common Issues & Fixes

Problem: Conversions not tracking at all
Solution: 1) Check that form redirects to thank-you page correctly. 2) Verify tracking code is on thank-you page (view source). 3) Check for JavaScript errors in browser console. 4) Ensure thank-you page URL matches trigger condition.
Prevention: Always test the full form submission flow after setup.
Problem: Double counting conversions
Solution: Thank-you page may be reloading or accessible directly. Add a 'conversion' flag or use 'one per session' counting in Google Ads. In GA4, check for duplicate events.
Prevention: Set conversion counting to 'One' in Google Ads. noindex thank-you pages.
Problem: GA4 shows conversions but Google Ads doesn't
Solution: Google Ads tracking is separate from GA4. Ensure you installed the Google Ads conversion tag, not just GA4. Import GA4 conversions to Google Ads if preferred.
Prevention: Decide whether to use native Google Ads tracking or import from GA4. Pick one approach.
Problem: Facebook Pixel not firing
Solution: Check browser console for errors. Ensure the base pixel loads before the lead event. Use Facebook Pixel Helper extension to debug.
Prevention: Install base pixel globally, event code on thank-you page only.
