Shopify has a rigid URL structure (e.g., /products/, /collections/, /pages/). You cannot change these prefixes, but you can optimize the "handle" (slug) that comes after them.

Scroll to "Search engine listing"

Ensure "Create a URL redirect" is CHECKED (Shopify does this by default)

Changing URLs on a live store can hurt SEO if redirects fail. Only do this if necessary.

Verification Checklist

  • URL contains keywords
  • Old URL redirects to new URL (301)
  • No underscores, only hyphens

Common Issues & Fixes

Problem: Cannot remove /products/ or /collections/ from URL
Solution: This is a core Shopify limitation. You cannot remove these folder prefixes without "headless" architecture.
